30 DoP Part XI

Anyone sick of this yet?  For part eleven of this semi daily instalment I have painted a Chaos Sorcerer.  This is for the same Dark Wolves army that the landraider is for.  Fairly simple piece.  Standard “Paint, Wash Highlight” method.  Not really much to go into actually.  So I’ll let you enjoy the photo.

Dakka Jet Wip part 2…ish

Posted: June 4, 2012 in Uncategorized

Ok, so I don’t have pictures as the base of the Dakka jet is still letting it’s glue dry so I’ll have finished pics for tomorrow.  Plus because of the way I paint, (which is kinda ad hock I guess with one step blending into the next) I kinda failed to take pics during the process so I’ve only got a written description of the weathering for you tonight.

So after continuing to pick out different details such as the white sections, jacking around with the canopy a bit (no longer clear but Has a nice yellow look to it using the GW yellow glaze) and adding my decals I coated the whole model with Model Masters Flat spray.  This is different from my normal use of dull coat which has been leaving my models rather shiny lately.  The spray left a nice flat surface to weather.

I airbrushed on the usual Ak Interactive oil streaks and wintry grime in a streaking pattern from front to back.  As you can guess this was to give a sense of motion to the model.  Using a large flat brush dipped in clean mineral spirits I brushed (again from front to back) to streak the paint.

After this dried (a couple hours later) I sprayed it again with the flat spray.  Then it was overboard with the weathering powders.  I really did kinda go nuts here.  Mostly with the black soot powder.  I like Forgeworld Weathering powders as they adhere to the paint better than other powders I’ve tried.  Anyway, I streaked anything that looked like it needed it.  So all the exhaust ports, vents and ammunition ejection ports.  Then with a slightly lighter tough I added streaks of both the black soot, dark earth across different sections of the wings.  Once all the powders were applied a coat of mineral spirits was airbrushed on to fix the powders to the model before giving it a final coat of the flat spray.

That’s pretty much it.  The pilot was my new ork skin method of knarloc green layered up to German yellow.  I really can’t wait to test this thing in game.  I’ve heard a lot of complaining about the rules of it on different forums but, I don’t care.  It looks cool!  I’ll give you some pictures tomorrow and hopefully a new models for the 30 DoP!

Sorry for all the wordiness of this post, hope it was useful to you!

Dakka Jet WIP

So A small break from 30 days of paint as there was no way I was going to complete this bad boy in a day, despite my efforts.

So first I have a few shots of the box and it’s contents.  Pretty straight forward, 3 sprues plus a clear plastic sprue and the flights stand.  Building the model went off with out a hitch.  Very few mold lines to clean on this.  I wanted to add the extra dakka of a 3rd suppa shoota plus I liked the look of the bomber wings more so I used the additional bombers parts for my dakka jet.  I think this is really what I like about this model.  I could make 3 or 4 dakka jets and have them look different.  There are a plethora of parts in this kit and if nothing else it will make a great addition to your bitz box.

Once assembly was done I coated the windscreen with MicroMask fluid.  It works best if you use at least 2 coats.  As I learned the hard way.  Another great thing about the orks,  it doesn’t especially matter if their canopy glass is clear or not.  They’re orks!  They don’t care!

So I airbrushed the whole thing with GW tau sept ochre.  and then lightened this up to do some slight color modulation on different panels.  I picked out some panels with Abbadon black, and the metal areas in leadbelcher.  The exhaust by the nose was scorched brown.

I have since washed all the metal parts in Nuln oil, my personal replacement to delvan mud.  No pictures of that yet but, they are coming.  Tomorrow its weathering time!  Actually you might find the weathering process very simillar to the killblasta.  I might change it up though.  Who knows?

30 DoP Part X

Today we have a Chaos Land raider.  Technically done inside the “day” requirement.  This is part of my Dark Wolves army that I’m effectively painting to sell.  Though If I like it enough, who knows I might keep it.  It depends on how depserate I am for money at the time.

Once I got past the boring parts like airbrushing the grey and painting in the pannels and metalic bits and the like this thing was a ton of fun to weather.  It also took a long time for my oil wash to dry.  Which is why it technically took two days.

I’d say more about it, but it’s 1 in the morning and I’m sleepy!

Tomorrow will be a work in progress on my Dakka jet that I happily got a day early.

Till then, hope you enjoy!

So with the way my  work schedule is shaping out I might change this slightly from 30 days of paint to “30 days of progress” and just document my progress each day.  This would allow me to skip fewer days because of not being able to complete a model and it would allow me to work on some other more pressing projects.

For today though, I have a Space Shark for you.  No I’m not doing any cheesy fins on the helmets of them, sorry to disappoint.  I played with a new blood technique this time.  Why has no one told me about candy coats before?  Seriously makes for some good fun, just mix with some black paint and you get a really nice blood.  I ordered some uhu glue online as well cause you supposedly can make some great gore by combining the two of them.  I’ll write up a post on that when it arrives.

Till then, enjoy!

(You’ll note I got so distracted by playing with the blood effects I only just noticed I forgot to finish the purity seals.  Oh well.)

Day late, dollar short.  Happens to the best of us.  Point being, I have another model painted for you!

Have you ever had a model that when you started it it looked like a mess?  Like it couldn’t possibly turn out no matter how much effort you put into it?  Cause this was one of those models for me.   I started with the flesh and had to touch up a ton of the armor.  And then trying to get all the little metallic bits was a pain.  There’s a really easy pun that I’m not going to make.  All in all the model took about 6 hours to paint, and I really like it.  It fits in with the rest of my Dark Eldar nicely and once it gets its SecretWeapon base it will look right at home.  Plus I love the way the fleshy bits turned out and I’ll be using it on my DE wracks.  If you’re wondering, its Dheneb stone, with a wash of Leviathan purple.  Touched up with some more dheneb stone, and a wash of Agrax earth shade.

As always, enjoy!

Do you remember how I said you might be seeing a few of those grots?  Well, here’s another one!  I worked most of the day, but I wanted to have an entry so I started him this morning before going to work and finished this evening afterwards.  All in all only about an hour and a half worth of painting.  Still I’m glad I’m both finally getting these done (I might even show you the whole model once the crew are finished) and that I’m generally sticking to this paint at least one figure a day.

As per always, enjoy!

So yes, yesterday was one of those days where I effectively had two hours to paint and those two hours were from 10 till midnight after I got home from work.  So I took the day off.

Today for you though I have a titan princeps!  One day I might even have a finished titan to show you.  Until that day though, enjoy today’s figure.

Alright time for the fifth instalment of this project.  Today we have a Black ork.  probably should have saved him for a day when I had less time.  For the most part he was fairly easy to paint and only took a couple hours.  Though With drying times cause of the washes maybe it was a better thing I painted him up when I had extra time.  I should have got a better side shot because I really liked how some of the markings on his armor turned out but I’m not that worried about showing that off.  Though I also really like the axe blade, so I’m glad I got a good shot of that.

Enjoy!

It’s getting kinda fun now.  I honestly didn’t think I would make it this far but, the 4th model is officially done!  A few minutes late I suppose but, it was done at midnight, it just took me this long to take the photo’s and post them.  Not that it really matters it’s not like anyone is grading me on this.

Here we have a nice Empire Flagellant.  Kinda fitting with all the protesters in Chicago this past weekend so I thought it might be fun to paint since I’ve had it lying around for years.  I should have wrote “occupy” across the banner.

Took about 3 and a half hours to paint.  I’m actually really happy with the lettering on the banner.  It’s not perfect but, I feel its a definite improvement from Crows lettering.

Enjoy!
