30 DoP Part XVIII

So I was going to give you a 360 degree turnaround of this guy but flash kept crashing on me.  I’ll try again tomorrow.

One of the final pieces for the Dark Wolves army is the terminator champion.  Yes there is a reason he looks all mucked up.  That’s because he is.  I tried priming him once and the primer didn’t take.  It got all crackled so I stripped him and tried again.  Same thing.  Don’t know what was wrong cause I primed other models with the same primer at the same time and they were fine.  So after letting him sit for a while ( a long while) today I decided I would paint him anyways.  There isn’t a terrible loss of detail, and some of the cracks in the armor look cool.  Lots of grey paint later and here he is.  Nothing special to note about painting techniques.  Pretty much the same stuff as I used in my previous Dark wolves.  He’s not perfect but I think he’ll get the job done.

Enjoy!

Ok so it’s been a little while but here we go a real legit post with a new model and everything!  Today we have an empire captain for my Empire army I’m building.  I tried a few new things on this guy while painting.  The first was going a little lighter on my highlights.  I keep reading to not be afraid to get really close to white when highlighting and I think it does help.  It really worked on the gloves and cloth.  Another technique that I have mixed feelings on is painting the static grass.  I’ve seen a lot of people do this, and I’m not sure its something I like.  I might have to perfect it so I’ll keep trying.  Sadly the sword got a little blown out in the photo, but I was trying a different style for the sword with better placed highlights and low lights.  Over all finishing this guy has inspired me a bit to work on my empire army again.  Something I can’t spend too much time in as I have to finish a few items that need selling so I can fund my foray into 6th edition.  I’m not missing out on the collectors edition this time.

The question is, do I want to buy the collectors edition or the gamers edition?

That aside, Enjoy!

Nothing quite new yet

Sadly no new material for you tonight.  Be a busy week or so but, I have some free time coming up.  So hopefuly each of the next few days I should have a 30 DoP for you.  I haven’t been totaly inactive so I’ll post what I’ve been working on all through the week as well.

Thanks for your patience.

Really quick as I just got home, here’s an update!  It’s another spaceshark.  This one is more of a one off really.  Not gonna be part of my main army but I have extra marines lying around and it’s a paint scheme I know pretty well so I was able to fit it in to a busy day.

Enjoy!

Just as a heads up I updated the pricing page in an attempt to make it more streamlined.  I’m hoping the percentage pricing will allow people to have a fairly clear idea of what something will cost them.  I guess we will see.

Moving on to more important things, I have another instalment of 30 Days of Paint!  I’m making a slight addendum to my rule set.  If I paint more than one figure in a day, it still counts.  I think that’s a fair rule don’t you?  So today I painted up the rest of my Possessed Chaos marines squad.  These guys were fun.  I really like the way the second set of wings turned out in the grey.  I think it looks a little better than the color I used on the first set of wings.  I used Devlan mud and Nuln Oil to blend all the colors together.  I have to say, I’m really going to miss my devlan mud when I run out of it (I have something like 7 or 8 pots of it).  It’s what I use on bone colors.  The new agrax earthshade just doesn’t do it.  I’ve heard of some similar paints out there so I might have to give them a try.

That’s enough of my ramblings, enjoy the pictures!

Ok, I finally have an update for you guys!  Here we have my first painted Dust Warfare model.  So I over all like the models from dust there are just a few problems.  The first is though they say the base color acts as a primer, they don’t trim off any mold lines so the figures are usually covered in them.  The soft plastic makes these a bit more of a task to remove and it also means you will occasionally get droopy guns.  But for a first round of models they are pretty good.  So after cleaning up the mold lines and filling in the gap between the torso and waist (they are articulate which I decided to not keep) I primed and painted as normal.  He took about 5 and a half hours to paint, not including the drying time of the base material.  I let that set while I was out at a family gathering.  Not too bad for my first attempt at painting one of these.

Enjoy!

HMMWV Wip

Hey, sorry for the lack of 30DoP updates.  Not gonna get one today either.  My work schedule has meant I don’t have enough time to paint a full model.  That and I’m starting to run low on different models so you might start seeing some repeat figures.  Still I thought I would update on what I have been working on in the couple hours per day I’ve had free.  To prove I do more than just GamesWorkshop models I’ve finally started on Academy’s M1151 HMMWV.  So far this thing has been a breeze to assemble.  A few more mold lines on some of the smaller parts than I would have liked but, it wasn’t too difficult to clean up.  There are a few points where the instructions seem a bit backwards.  I’ve made some notes in my instructions and When I finish the assembly I’ll make a post with all my notes so people don’t run into the same problems I did.

Today for you I have a Possessed Chaos Marine.  If you couldn’t guess this is another one of those models going into my Dark Wolves army.  I like the color of the wings for the most part.  It was a combination of one of the new GW flesh colors and a touch of German yellow and a dash of Evil suns scarlet for the shading followed by a wash of good old devlan mud to blend it together.  Like I said, I like the color, I’m not sure how I feel about it in combination with the rest of the colors.  It does stand out on the display board though.  Maybe I’ll try something different on one of the other five or just keep it the same for consistency’s sake.  We’ll see.

Enjoy!

This one is another small one.  A Night Goblin.  For whatever reason I have a ton of these little guys laying around so I figured it would be good for a quick paint today.  Fun to paint.  Got to practice my new blood and ork skin techniques some more.

Enjoy!

So you’ve already read how I got to this point, so I’ll get right to the two (ones just zoomed in) pictures I took before my battery died.  I swear I’ll get more of this thing onto the finished gallery.

Enjoy!
