Up coming projects

Posted: March 13, 2017 in Uncategorized

Just a quick taste of whats to come in the near future.

My big project is I’m working on a number of forgeworld tanks for the owner of a local game store, including an original all resin baneblade.

Got the base grey colors done on three of the tanks so far, and I just finished the basic assembly of the baneblade.

Also I’ve got a Tiger 1 and a Panther from bolt action I’ll be working on.  These are fantastic kits in my opinion. Especially for wargaming.  They have a good amount of detail on them but not too much that it takes forever to build and prevents you from getting them on the table top.

Next I’m starting an escalation league for Age of Sigmar, so I just picked up the Start Collecting box set for them.

Lastly, If anyone remembers a long time ago, I started working on a M1151 Enhanced Armored Carrier.  Well, I let that thing sit on the shelf since the last time I posted about it more or less.  But I finally started working on it again!  Some inspiration came from watching a series of youtube painting videos and one just happened to be on this exact same model.  So I bought the same glue I saw in the video and that has made a huge difference in ease of assembly.  Specifically Tamiya’s Extra Thin cement.  I can’t tell you how much I love this stuff.  It sets supper quickly, and you apply it with a brush.  So no more worrying about how much glue is going to come out of the bottle.

I know, not a lot of exciting pictures today but I wanted to do a post so you all know, I haven’t just dropped the blog again.  Also so I know that I haven’t just dropped the blog again.

That’s enough rambling, onto the pictures!

Commission Complete!

Posted: February 27, 2017 in Uncategorized

So the Infinity commission (name of the game, not the amount of time it took to complete) I’ve been working on is finally complete.  I’ve posted a few work in progress shots and commentary over the last month so I won’t be saying anything about the builds or painting of these, just dumping a ton of photos here.

With this project done, I’ve got new and exciting projects to move on to.  to give a hint, I’ve got a number of forgeworld tanks I’ll be working on, lot of Konflikt 47 and Bolt Action models to paint and a few other small projects here and there.

While I really do enjoy painting Infinity figures, it will be nice to move on to something else for a while.

Tohaa Work In Progress

Posted: January 18, 2017 in Uncategorized

Another update!  I mean I paid 25 bucks for the domain name so I may as well get some use out of it, right?

Ben working an infinity project for a client of mine.  These are some work in progress shots of the models.  To be fair, they are more or less complete, just some details here and there and then I need to finish the symbiobeasts.

These have been a lot of fun to paint thus far.  I’ve really got use out of the new Angel Giraldez Master Class Volume 2 book I picked up after christmas.  I’ve picked up a lot of good tips in using washes to bring out different colors.  Also how to get better combining the use of my airbrush and regular brushes.

Paints were pretty straight forward.  For all the blacks I used Games workshop colors.

For the orange armor and clothing I used Vallejo Game colors Orange fire, highlighted with white and then lightly shaded with  GW Carroburg Crimson.

The Orange symbiotic pieces I started with a couple different yellows and then used a wash of VGC Orange Fire, and then again washed with GW Carroburg Crimson.

The Armor was GW’s Rakarth Flesh, highlighted to their Pallid Wych Flesh.

And lastly the green colors were VGC Jade green mixed with Magic Blue.

A lot of the techniques I used were directly from that Master class book, I just used paints that I had available.

So I make no promises I’ll be able to keep up this time but I felt now is as good a time as any to make an update.

Just a photo dump really of some models I’ve painted over the last couple of months or so.  I may get around to tagging them properly so they’re easier to search for, or I may not and only the two or three people who still end up on this page will see them.

Seriously, I’m not sure where you guys are coming from.

Hope you enjoy!

Wild West exodus

If you haven’t seen Wild West Exodus, then you should check it out. It’s a great game with really nice models. As part of the kickstarter I got quite a few fun toys out of it. And they just had a sale on the 4th of July so I have quite a bit more on its way. That said, I love painting these models and here is my current Lawmen army for you to take a look at.

Enjoy!

So to start, the Space Sharks did sell so I’m currently in the process of assembling my Iron Warriors army so there will be updates on that to come.

In the interim, I’ll share this commission I just finished painting (along with a few models from a previous commission, all part of the same army).

Sorry, no time to include a painting tutorial this morning. I’m posting this in a hurry.

Enjoy the photos!

SPACE SHARKS!!

Posted: May 19, 2014 in Uncategorized

So, sometimes you just like to take a year off. That aside, I’m currently selling my Space Sharks army on ebay. I hadn’t really ever planned on selling this army but I know I’m not going to get around to finishing it. Plus I want to use the money to finally start my Iron Warriors Legion list. So I’m kinda using this post as a dumping grounds for extra pictures since ebay only lets you post 12.
The sale is http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=191183545495 here in case anyone is interested. Assuming this sells, I’ll start doing a walk through of my Iron Warriors as I get them, and get this blog moving again.

So I’ve got two models on the docket for tonight. The first is my dread knight. To start with this was a gift from my awesome Wife. So needless to say I wanted to do the model justice. It took me a while to work up to painting it but over all I’m happy with the results.

To start I airbrushed on bolt gun metal cause you know, I still had some lying around. I worked my way up to highlighting with mithril silver. After this I washed the model with AK’s enamel wash for NATO vehicles (if only NATO had dreadknights). Moving along I then stippled on more bolt gun and again worked my way back up to mithril silver. Next is the part that is a bit harder to for others to repeat. My bottle of Vallejo gory red is more like an ink than it is supposed to be. Which has actually served me well thus far. In this case one coat over the areas I wanted red made for a nice metallic red. This received the same wash as before. The pistons were done with Vallejo primer panzer grey, highlighted with space wolves grey. The piston rods were mithril silver with AK’s engine oil. The exhausts were my standard oil wash with rust and black powders applied on top.

The base was assembled with cork board and woodland scenics water effects.
Over allI am quite happy with how it turned out.

Next up is an eldar Fraser. Picked this guy up a while back when thought about playing eldar. Actually I have a few of those types of models. Anyway, with the new codex it seemed like a good time to paint it. I should mention there was a slight conversion. I lost the original long sword arm so I used one from a dire avenger exarch.

The painting was fairly straight forward. Highlighted the black with grey mixed with Dheneb Stone to give it a touch of wraith bone. The wraith bone it self was Dheneb stone highlighted with white. The robes are just Mephiston red highlighted up. Over all the color choice was really straight forward. I just took my time with this one and it turned out a lot better than my eldar from a few years ago.

A couple of side notes. I have my whole vampire counts army for sale on eBay. If anyone is interested, please check it out.

Also with the release of the new space marines coming out, I will be attempting to finish my Space Sharks before release day. Also I want to know what you think the first new model I should get for them. Which ever kit gets the most recommendations will be the first one I get, and do a post about painting. Actually when all of the new kits are announced, I’ll put up a poll. Until then though, comments count as votes!

Till next time, enjoy!

STOMPA!!

Posted: August 10, 2013 in Uncategorized

So, you might remember a while back I posted a picture of a work in progress stompa. If you don’t, no need to go back and look as here is the finished stompa!
After laying down the base coat which mostly consisted of various shades of green Vallejo primers I hit all the spots I wanted a color aside from green. I find being able to hit just the right spots with color is less technical than the actual painting process but an equally important skill. Or at least I like to tell my self that as I tend to spend a lot of time deciding what to do with color.
Anywho. For the weathering I used a wide spread of products. The initial wash consisted of a burnt umber oil wash over the whole of the model. Nuln oil was used on the large white surfaces. Ak streaking products were used on the guns and the giant chain sword along with their NATO black wash. Once this was all sealed on with dull cote on came the weathering powders. Seriously, I kinda went to town during this step but, hey, it’s Orks we are talking about here.
What really worked was hitting an area with a bit of the oil wash first by dipping your brush then drying it and rubbing what’s left onto the model then using a separate brush, stippling on the weathering powders.
The rust on the exhaust started as vallejo’s hull red with a dark brown oil wash on it. Before it could dry I applied various rust powders to them and forgeworlds soot black to the tops specifically.
The eye was airbrushed on workings through red orange and yellow, taking care to only hit highlights as I worked my way through.

As you can see the commander isn’t finished yet but he is close to done. Maybe Ill give him his own post. Till then enjoy!

It’s been a while.

Posted: July 28, 2013 in Uncategorized
So the last time I posted here was last November.  I have to say I am impressed that the page still gets views.  That being said I think it’s time to give people something to view again.  If you’re wondering about the hiatus it was primarily cause I had started a job in shipping at Christmas time last year which lead to a crazy schedule.  So I stopped posting cause I didn’t have time but, also as a way of saying I wasn’t doing commissions.  I know, I could have just posted that but where is the fun in that.  This time I’ll post about it when I’m ready to start accepting more commissions again. Currently working one, not sure I’m ready for more.
So now that I’ve chatted your ear off I’ll give you some pics of the Titan I’ve been painting.  Honestly I’ve been working on this for longer than I’ve had this blog.  Sometimes my projects sit around if I’m not sure what to do with them.  Then something will come along and inspire me to finish them.  In this case it was the new Apocalypse book.
The black was achieved with model masters flat black and interior aircraft lightly airbrushed to fade into each other. The gold was done with GW colors with some burn umber oil rubs on the gold eagle.  Lots of weathering powder on the feet and that’s pretty much where it’s at.  I just need to print out a decal from my legion on decal paper and put that on.
One final note.  You may notice that the quality of the images is not as good as in the past.  That’s because I’m using my iPad to take these photos.  It makes it easier and more likely for me to post the pictures as I don’t have to do any set up or tear down or photo editing.  I won’t use it exclusively for photo’s but it does help.
Hope you all enjoy after so long.
