Ok, so I don’t have pictures as the base of the Dakka jet is still letting it’s glue dry so I’ll have finished pics for tomorrow. Plus because of the way I paint, (which is kinda ad hock I guess with one step blending into the next) I kinda failed to take pics during the process so I’ve only got a written description of the weathering for you tonight.
So after continuing to pick out different details such as the white sections, jacking around with the canopy a bit (no longer clear but Has a nice yellow look to it using the GW yellow glaze) and adding my decals I coated the whole model with Model Masters Flat spray. This is different from my normal use of dull coat which has been leaving my models rather shiny lately. The spray left a nice flat surface to weather.
I airbrushed on the usual Ak Interactive oil streaks and wintry grime in a streaking pattern from front to back. As you can guess this was to give a sense of motion to the model. Using a large flat brush dipped in clean mineral spirits I brushed (again from front to back) to streak the paint.
After this dried (a couple hours later) I sprayed it again with the flat spray. Then it was overboard with the weathering powders. I really did kinda go nuts here. Mostly with the black soot powder. I like Forgeworld Weathering powders as they adhere to the paint better than other powders I’ve tried. Anyway, I streaked anything that looked like it needed it. So all the exhaust ports, vents and ammunition ejection ports. Then with a slightly lighter tough I added streaks of both the black soot, dark earth across different sections of the wings. Once all the powders were applied a coat of mineral spirits was airbrushed on to fix the powders to the model before giving it a final coat of the flat spray.
That’s pretty much it. The pilot was my new ork skin method of knarloc green layered up to German yellow. I really can’t wait to test this thing in game. I’ve heard a lot of complaining about the rules of it on different forums but, I don’t care. It looks cool! I’ll give you some pictures tomorrow and hopefully a new models for the 30 DoP!
Sorry for all the wordiness of this post, hope it was useful to you!
